After 40 years from initial plans, the construction of the Technical Passenger Station Zemun, an important part of the Belgrade railway system will be continued. Works should begin between 15th and 25th July, said the Director of Serbia Railway, Mr. Jugoslav Jović.
The old buildings will be reconstructed and upgraded, and a brand new, modern part will be built on a total of 35 hectares of land between “Zemun” and “Zemun Polje” stations, with modern management and train maintenance facilities, as well as significant saving in time and money.
On June 4th the Contract for works was signed with a Consortium of companies Energoprojekt Niskogradnja, Energoprojekt Oprema and Colas Rail SAS from France, in the amount of 50.9 million EUR being a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with the deadline of 27 months for completion of the Project, said Mr. Jović.
Within the “TPS Zemun” Complex, a unique technological line process that integrates all aspects of maintenance of EMUs, passenger coaches and locomotives will be formed, which will increase the availability of trains.
The scope of the Project is to build new: halls for holding EMG 413 and for maintenance of passenger cars, building for external cleaning, building for receiving and dispatch of trains, automatic measuring station for diagnostics of vehicles, boiler with a compressor station, 17 km of new track and a pumping station.
The plan is to build a temporary waste storage as well as a building to accommodate Railway staff.
Planed for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing building is: the upper and lower tracks, halls for holding EMG 412, wheel lathe halls, warehouses for sand and for oil and water.
